Realization is Dawning
I ran my longest run so far last night - 4 miles. I was surprised at how much longer it SEEMED than 3 miles. Somewhere just under 3 miles I realized that I would be running at least an hour and a half for the 15K! That's a long time! But I remind myself to take heart and have faith in the training schedule (I'm using the Higgins 12 week one that Samantha sent out). The training schedule WORKS and gradually gets you were you need to be without injury. I remember worrying a lot about running so long when I trained for my 1st half marathon. Sure enough, the training worked and I did just fine. When in doubt, trust in your training! :)

Great job, Laura! You and I are in the same boat. Going from three to four miles was a BIG deal for me. Three miles was my base and comfort zone. When I made it through four I felt like I had just finished ten miles. YES, we can do this!
ReplyDeleteAwesome! Have faith in your training is key indeed and something I learned the hard way. Not keeping on schedule resulted in injury to my 'bad' foot. Spent $80 on 1 acupuncture session and 1 week of rest... I still get the itch to run on my rest days, but I NOW know it will jeopardize my training more than help.
ReplyDeleteI need to be better about keeping a schedule. I am worried about training injuries too, especially having sprained my ankle a few weeks ago. I am so comfortable with 5 miles now that I'm scared about getting to our final goal - 9.3 seems out of reach!
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I switched to a training guide for a half-marathon (for beginners): http://www.halhigdon.com/halfmarathon/novice.htm. That's if you were wondering why I am up to 9.5 miles, which is more that the 15K I plan to run for Gasparilla.
